Mountain Pose (Tadasana) - Yoga With Adriene (+playlist)
I often recommend yoga and meditation to clients who have certain issues showing up on their charts. One thing I have noticed over the past decade or more is the increase of "power" yoga, athletic yoga and extreme forms of yoga practice that move this mind-body practice away from something for Everyone and toward something that feels more elite (and, in some circles, a bit holier-than-thou) in nature and less approachable for those who haven't tried it yet. I know that the people enjoying the more challenging practice styles did not cause this elitism on purpose. No blame. However, as someone who has practiced yoga for over 30 years, I would love to encourage those who haven't tried it to seek out talented teachers such as this woman I found on Youtube. I had begun to pay attention to teachers online, Instagram, etc. After lots of sifting, I found Adriene. She is so thoughtful, conscientious and thorough that I feel comfortable recommending her foundations videos to those of you who would like to learn more about yoga. Have fun and go easy if you are just starting out. Remember that yoga should never hurt. It feels good, even in a deep stretch. If you feel a pinch or pain, stop!!! Ease off and scale back your movements. You have more than enough time and space in life to evolve into this practice. If you do it regularly, you have ample time to explore and ground yourself. It is a mindfulness practice hand in hand with the stretching and strengthening that is happening. And, breathe.
